Blackmagic Design’s Camera App Update

Blackmagic Design has released a significant update to its free camera app for Android devices. The Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.0 update introduces multicam remote control, allowing up to nine smartphones running the app to be monitored and controlled from a single Android device, including select Android tablets. This update also adds support for Tilta’s USB lens control system and high frame rate video capture on compatible Sony Xperia phones.

Leica’s New Camera Announcement

Leica has officially announced the Leica SL3-S, a 24MP full-frame camera in its SL range of L-mount mirrorless cameras. The SL3-S offers continuous shooting at up to 30fps and extensive video features, including 6K full-sensor ‘open gate’ capture. Priced at $5,295, it is available for pre-order at B&H and Adorama.

Sony’s Global Shutter Sensor

Sony has introduced a global shutter image sensor in the Sony A9 III, marking a significant technological breakthrough. This sensor provides simultaneous data readout for all pixels, eliminating subject distortion due to rolling shutter and reducing flickering and banding in artificial light. It enables high-speed continuous shooting of 120 frames per second in full resolution 24.6MP raw, complete with continuous autofocus and subject tracking.

Panasonic’s Autofocus Enhancement

Panasonic has announced the addition of phase-detection autofocus to its S5II, S5IIX, and G9II models, replacing the previous Depth-From-Defocus technology. This enhancement aims to improve autofocus performance, addressing one of the perceived disadvantages of its cameras.
